Oxbridge Math Tutors Digital SAT · Scoring resource

A score is a signal, not a diagnosis.

A clear guide to Digital SAT Maths performance, question decisions, accuracy, and the difference between a content gap and an execution gap.

01

Separate knowledge from decisions

A missed question might reflect content, reading, pacing, or method selection. Reviewing only the topic label can hide the decision that caused the error.

02

Answer easier questions accurately

Read carefully, estimate when useful, check units and move on when a route is consuming too much time. SAT questions do not all contribute a fixed number of points.

03

Use practice as evidence

A useful review records what happened before the wrong answer, not only which answer was selected. That makes the next practice decision more specific.

Current calculator policy

Check the device, not just whether calculators are allowed

Policy checked against College Board in October 2026. Recheck the official policy before the actual test date.

Built-in tools and handheld devices

Bluebook provides a built-in calculator for Math. A handheld calculator must satisfy College Board’s current policy: only non-CAS devices are allowed. Remove programs with algebra functionality and stored documents. The built-in Bluebook tools are not permission to bring a prohibited handheld device.

Test format

Two modules, calculator throughout

Structure

  • 44 maths questions in two modules
  • 35 minutes per module, 22 questions each
  • A calculator is allowed throughout; Desmos is built into Bluebook

Adaptive modules

The second module adapts to performance in the first. The first module has a comparable mix of difficulty across test forms, but not identical questions.

Time and review

Time does not carry over between modules. Students can revisit questions within a module only, not after submitting it.

Unscored items

Each module includes 2 unscored pretest questions. They are not identified, so treat every question as counting.

Scores

What the score does and does not mean

Maths scores: 200 to 800

Scores account for question characteristics as well as correctness through an item-response model. Two students with the same number correct can receive different scores. Reading and Writing is a separate section; this offer covers Maths only.

Both modules count

The maths score is based on performance across both modules. There is no fixed ceiling such as about 600 from the first module alone, and a harder second module does not by itself guarantee a high score.

No grade thresholds by topic

We do not give a topic-level cut-off for a target score.

Date and evidence

Check the actual test date and registration window on the College Board site; do not assume a single month. A full timed Bluebook practice test is the best evidence; current and target maths scores are optional context.

Worked educational example

Translate, then choose a method

Gym A charges 40 to join plus 18 per month. Gym B has no joining fee and charges 28 per month. After how many months do they cost the same?

  1. TranslateLet m be months. A: 40 + 18m. B: 28m.
  2. Algebra40 + 18m = 28m gives 40 = 10m, so m = 4.
  3. Desmos alternativeGraph y = 40 + 18x and y = 28x; the intersection is at x = 4.
  4. CheckMonth 4 cost: A = 112, B = 112. Both plans have the same cost after four months.

Either route is valid; the skill is choosing the quicker and less error-prone one for the question in front of you.

Questions parents ask
Can my child go back to earlier questions?

Only within the same module. Once a module is submitted it cannot be revisited.

Does unused time carry over?

No.

Is the SAT only offered in May?

No. Check the College Board calendar for actual dates and windows.
